First Craft Project of 2006: Gothica Barbie of the Netherworld

This evening while Felixx and I were hanging out at The Schroeder's, I saw this doll:

A neighbor had given the doll to their daughter, Trinity. But apparently she doesn't like the doll and is actually scared of it. They told me I could have it if I wanted it. All of a sudden I got all excited about getting this particular doll. You see, she's not just a standard Barbie-ish 12 inch doll. She is actually about waist high, about 38 inches tall with ballet slippers and a really nice and details satin tutu outfit.

She looks like the standard Barbie Princess doll. She even freaking talks if you push the button in the middle of her stomach. Combined with the fact that she is a talk above average doll, she is kinda creepy. Felixx is kind of freaked out about and didn't even want to me bring it home. But I did anyways because she will be my first project of 2006.

I am going to turn her from Princess Ballet Barbie to Gothica Barbie of the Netherworld (something along those lines anyways). Here are somethings I am considering doing:

  • Dye her synthetic hair to either Red, Blue, or Black.
  • Possibly a haircut if the ends don't dye well.
  • Take her current outfit and dye it black and add layers to her skirt to make it more like a ballgown using either satin, chiffon, or lace. Possibly making it look like a gothic wedding gown with a lace or chiffon veil.
  • Repainting her face with acrylic paint to give her a darker make-up pattern.
  • Paint her finger nails black.
  • Making jewelry accessories using either rubber scraps, lace, leather scraps. Possible accessories could include a bondage collar, a 'jeweled' or lace choker, wrist bands, bondage cuffs and etc.
  • Making more outfits for the doll such as a velvet cutoff top, long black skirt, some sort of vest, a satin top, a corset-like top with a lace overlay or a shrug, a mini skirt, and maybe a cloak.
  • And somehow give her some facial or ear piercings.
The only problem is shoes for her. I may have to shop for kiddie infant dress shoes for her because I don't know how to make shoes. I may be able to make stocking for her though.

I am going to say that this project will take me about 3-4 months max to make everything that I want to and to alter her look. It should take about a month to really see some results. I really don't want rush this project and take my time. And I think I am really going to enjoy this.
