Ode to Ebenezer Scrooge

Tis the time for Christmas again, the Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ The Son of God. And over centuries of social evolution its has mostly become a commercialistic non religious holiday in which people fight for the cheapest (but somehow the best) gift to give to one another. And somewhere in between that is the celebration of the birth of a religious icon, you actually are stuffing your face with food, buying tons of shit that people in your life may or may not need, putting yourself into further debt, and fulfilling the obligation of giving and getting. In short, you spend one day giving stuff to people that you may or may not care about while gain weight on your body and your financial burden.

In short, you spend one day giving stuff to people that you may or may not care about and you eventually still end you with a short end of everything.

Here it comes: Bah Humbug!

As I get older I have come to realize how much I really don't enjoy Christmas for what it is valued at now. This year I have purchased more gifts than I ever have in my whole 26 year existance and I come to realize that Christmas doesn't mean the same to me any more from when I was a little girl attending Catholic school. Back then it was about celebration of an icon to which his message was about kindness, giving, and love for thy neighbor. Now, its about Santa and presents and the whole obligations of giving. Argh! Gimme a break.

I use to like shopping and buying gifts but when the obligation sets in it really changes the mood. This year I had to make four obligation gifts and I only call them as such is because its either because I work with these people or I know them in passing and I know that they are getting me something. And in keeping with being nice for the holidays, I have to get them something.

And just when I thought that I have gotten my Christmas list to a manageable size, it doubles it size in a year.

Someday I will declare that I am not getting anyone anything anymore. This whole shopping thing is not getting easier and the malls are getting more and more crowded every year.

Once again, Bah Humbug!
